I’ve gotten some requests for wedding photos on the blog, but it’s a bit tough to show pictures from my wedding without SB in them. He was a pretty big part of that little shindig. I also don’t have many pictures yet, just the ones that friends have been willing to share with me.
(Hint hint, friend. I know you’re all busy hitting the NYT bestseller list this week, but come on! Where are my wedding pictures? Priorities!)
Meanwhile, until I can find a shot where you can’t see SB (seriously guys, tall order. People take pics of the groom too!) here’s one of our rather unusual cake:
This theme was in repeats throughout the reception.
More to come.

I have a GORGEOUS shot of you doing your vows with SB’s back to the camera, which I did deliberately so you’d have something to post. As soon as I get home tomorrow afternoon, I’ll download all the pics and send them to you.

Individual layer explanations, please.

Thank you, marley!
Alison, can you guess?

The bottom one, yes. The top one, I think so. The other two? Not so much.

They’re all places we’ve lived. We met at Yale (bottom layer), lived in Cairns, Australia (reef layer), hiked around in New Zealand (mountain layer), and now we’re in DC.

Oh cool. I kept trying to make the fish layer something about Nemo, heh.

I FOUND NEMO!

Doh. Beat me to it.
great minds!

Well, you’re both right. Nemo lived at the Great Barrier Reef, which is depicted in the photo.
Actually, SB and I watched that film right after our massive diving adventure, and the Pixar people did an AMAZING job of getting everything scientifically accurate — even though it was a cartoon. Our favorite was the scene in the beginning when Nemo’s dad tells him to “remember to brush.” Clownfish have a mucus on their skin which protects them from anemone poison, and when they are young, their bodies learn to secrete this mucus from brushing against the tentacles to build up their immunity, etc. This is also why Nemo’s dad is immune to the jellyfish stings. It’s the same poison.

Clownfish can also ride unicycles.

Great start to the sharing of the pics! Looks as though the finger at the left is trying to sneak a taste of frosting.
Um…how come the bride’s initials are on top?

LOVE love love that cake! And the initials

The cake is gorgeous.
As far as pictures go you could always go the Meg Cabot route and just paste a big smiley face over his head.

until I can find a shot where you can’t see SB
What, we can’t see his blue dot face?

Love the cake! Congratulations on the wedding as well!

What a beautiful cake, Diana. And what a brilliant idea about the layers. How romantic! *happy sigh*
Even though it’s probably a shame to hide your new husband’s face, crop it out so your adoring blog-fans can see you on your wedding day. My only wedding picture (taken by the court clerk, who apparently didn’t know how to point & shoot) turned out blurry.
Congratulations to you both, and may you have a lifetime of happiness together. =oD

The cake is amazing. I love how you incorporated your life with SB in it.
Can’t wait to see more pics.

Diana,
I HAD to see your wedding cake after the TKA chat last night. How magnificent and romantic. You came up with a unique cake and I loooove it.
The wedding photo above is fantabulous.
NEMO…I have to admit I take a NEMO board to the swimming pool…at my age. LOL
PS…I’ll watch for your books.
Hugs, Nancy/aka JJ Loch
